What is the server manager?

The server manager (sometimes called a pool manager) is a component in the enterprise tier of a 4-tier Teamcenter environment that starts and times out a configurable number of business logic server instances (TcServers). The server manager listens on a single port for incoming requests from web tier clients. As a user logs on to a client, a server assigner process within the server manager assigns an available TcServer. The TcServer performs operations requested by the web tier client and interacts with the Teamcenter database. The Teamcenter management console component can be used to perform many administrative tasks related to the server manager and TcServer instances. You can use third-party applications to view or manage server manager administration data. Some examples of third-party applications include the following. JConsole A monitoring tool complying to Java Management Extensions (JMX) specifications. JConsole uses Java Virtual Machine (Java VM) to provide information about the performance and resource consumption of applications running on the Java platform. This tool is included in the Java development kit (JDK). Java VisualVM A monitoring tool that provides a visual interface for viewing detailed information about Java applications while they are running on a Java Virtual Machine (JVM), and for troubleshooting and profiling these applications. Various stand-alone tools, such as JConsole, jstat, jinfo, jstack, and jmap, are part of Java VisualVM. This tool is included in the Java development kit (JDK).
