Modifying transient volume ID components
Modifying either the site ID or the Transient_Volume_RootDir preference has far-reaching impact, affecting multiple transient volumes defined in the system. Warning Siemens Digital Industries Software strongly discourages changing these values. Changing the site ID invalidates all existing FMS configured transient volumes because the site ID is used directly to generate transient volume IDs. Changing the Transient_Volume_RootDir preference value invalidates all transient volumes on the platform (Windows/Linux) that was modified because this preference defines the path to the transient volumes for the specified platform. To modify the Transient_Volume_RootDir preference: Procedure Change the value of the preference to the new path name of the transient volume on the Transient_Volume_RootDir. Caution Do not define the path as a UNC path, for example, \server\shared-transient-folder. Use a direct path location. This requirement is because some ZIP archive utilities do not accept UNC paths, resulting in failed exports to Microsoft Excel or Word. Generate the new transient volume IDs one server context at a time by completing the steps for Determining the transient volume ID for a different server context. Use the Organization application to reload the FMS configuration.
