requirements-management

When you export requirements and paragraphs to Word, you select a specification template and an object template. The object template determines which properties are included in the output document. Teamcenter extracts the property values to Word content controls in the document window.

You use the standard Word editing features to add, modify, copy, move, or delete content in the content controls. When you save the changes, the document closes and the changes are applied to the objects in Teamcenter.

Caution: Properties with dynamic or cascading lists of values (LOVs) cannot be created or modified with live Word.

Tip: To find the main content control for a requirement or paragraph, select the object in the Requirements pane. Client for Office highlights the content control in the document window.

With the default object template applied, the Word output document contains the following Teamcenter property values for each requirement and paragraph object:

Note: When using Teamcenter live Word to export requirements, formatting capabilities in Word are disabled for plain text entities such as the object name. Formatting capabilities are enabled for rich text entities such as body text.

  • Name property — the object name.

    • This value is formatted in a Word heading style with a numbered outline level.
    • The heading occupies a nested content control at the top of the main content control for the object.
    • If you edit the heading, the Requirements pane displays a red asterisk (*) to the right of the object, indicating changes are pending for the object.
  • Body Text property — the rich text content of the requirement or paragraph object.

    • Note: If you are working in a live Word output file, it may include a URL link to body text. In this case, click the link to access and review or edit the requirement content.
    • This value is formatted in a Word paragraph style.
    • Each Word paragraph occupies a nested content control within the main content control for the object.
    • If you place the cursor within the nested content control, the Requirements pane displays a red asterisk (*) to the right of the object, indicating changes are pending for the object. However, the asterisk appears whether or not you edit the Body Text property value.

Caution: When copying from one content control to another, the change is not applied in Teamcenter if the source selection includes the content control itself. You can avoid this condition by doing either of the following:

  • In the source content control, ensure that the control border is not highlighted.
  • In the target content control, select Keep Text Only under Paste Options. This action removes the source content control and inserts the remaining clipboard contents.

Caution: Edits made outside of a content control are not applied to objects in Teamcenter. Such edits become static content in the document. A new object is not created if you copy an object's main content control in the Word document window. The content becomes static where it is pasted in the document.
