Engineering BOM Management – Usage > Create and maintain color BOM
Define appearance areas
Define appearance areas An appearance area is a color-specific region of a product that encompasses one or more part occurrences that share the same color. You can create an appearance area in the context of an appearance product breakdown. You can create multiple appearance areas under the appearance breakdown structure. The appearance product breakdown and appearance areas can be set by your administrator to automatically generate. If your administrator has not set these to be automatically generated, you can manually create the appearance product breakdown and appearance areas. The following video shows how to define appearance areas in Teamcenter. Procedure Open an Assembly BOM or a Usage BOM with a variability scope attached, and go to the Content tab. Click Manage Color BOM . Select the root node of the engineering BOM. Do one of the following actions: To use an existing appearance product breakdown, double-click the Appearance Area column and select the required appearance product breakdown. To create a new appearance product breakdown, click . In the Add panel, enter the Name and Product Line. Click Add to create the appearance product breakdown. For each assembly node or a part occurrence, you must set either an appearance area breakdown or an appearance area. Do the one of the following actions: Scenario Action If the selected part occurrence is an assembly node Do the one of the following actions: To use an existing appearance area breakdown, select the appearance area breakdown that was created for an existing appearance product breakdown for the root node. To create a new appearance area breakdown, click for the selected assembly node. In the Add panel, select Type as Appearance Area Breakdown, enter the Name, and click Add to create. If the selected part occurrence is a leaf node Do the one of the following actions: To use an existing appearance area, select the appearance area that was created for an existing appearance product breakdown for the root node. To create a new appearance area, click for the selected part occurrence. In the Add panel, select Type as Appearance Area , enter the Name, and click Add to create. Tip Appearance areas or breakdowns should always be assigned in a top-down approach to ensure an accurate alignment with the BOM. The Less Finish parts that require the same color should be assigned to the same appearance area. When done this way, you do not need to assign the same color multiple times within a color theme. Once the color specification is assigned to any Less Finish part, all other Less Finish parts that share the same appearance area will automatically inherit the same color specification.
