Define global alternate groups

A global alternate group refers to a group of parts that can be interchanged with another under all circumstances, regardless of where the other parts are used in the product structure. A global alternate group can be applied to any revision of the part and is independent of any views. In Teamcenter, you can add the interchangeable parts while creating the alternate group or after creating it. Procedure Open a product structure and select the occurrences for which you want to create global alternates. Click File → New → Interchangeable Group → Alternate Group and click Next. (Mandatory) Specify an ID and name as appropriate. (Optional) Specify a description. To create the alternate group without adding the interchangeable parts, click Finish. You can add interchangeable parts after creating the alternate group. If you want to add interchangeable parts while creating the alternate group, continue the following procedures. To search for the parts you want to replace globally, in the Source Item List, click the Add button. To search for the parts you want to replace as alternates globally, in the Alternate Item List, click the Add button. To add the global alternates group, click Finish. Procedure Open a product structure, right-click and choose Alternate Group View. In the Alternate Group View, expand the alternate group you created. Add source items to the source item list. Select Source Item List and click the Add source items to the list view toolbar icon. Search the part you want to replace globally, select it, and click OK. Add alternate items to the alternate item list. Select Alternate Item List and click the Add interchangeable parts to the alternate list view toolbar icon. Search for the part you want to replace with an alternate, select it, and click OK. Add another interchangeable group. Click the Create an Interchangeable group view toolbar icon. (Mandatory) Specify an ID and a name, and click Finish. To add source items and alternate items, repeat step Add the interchangeable parts after creating the alternate group through step Add the interchangeable parts after creating the alternate group. Search for and add an interchangeable group. Click the Search and add an Interchangeable group view toolbar icon. Search by ID or name, select the group, and click OK. To delete an interchangeable group, select the group, and click the Delete an Interchangeable group view toolbar icon. To remove a source item or an alternate item from its list, select the item and click the Remove a source/alternate item from the list view toolbar icon and click the Save the editing of an interchangeable group view toolbar icon. You can enable this column to view the alternate groups and details of the global alternates.

Procedure Right-click a column and select Insert Columns. From Available Columns, select Alternate Groups and Global Alternates and move it to the Displayed Columns. Then select the column and move it to the appropriate level using the Move buttons. The internal name of this property is BOMLine.fnd0bl_alternate_groups.
