File virus scanning impact on upload performance

Several factors can impact performance when scanning a file for viruses. Consider these factors carefully to ensure your environment provides acceptable upload times. Scanning an uploaded file causes a file to pass through at least one additional server, the quarantine volume, before the file can be stored on the destination volume. This process can double the upload time. The performance of your network and the scanning software is important in limiting this impact, so test the performance of the scanning software prior to deployment. If you define multiple quarantine volumes in your File Management System network, define the routing carefully. If an uploaded file routes across multiple quarantine volumes, it is scanned multiple times resulting in a significant decrease in upload performance.
