Configure a structure with a variant rule

In Teamcenter, you can configure a structure with a variant rule. You can view the existing variant rules and variant configuration data. You can also change the configuration data and save the updated rule as a new variant rule. If you have Partitions for Structure deployed in your Teamcenter setup, you can set variability on partitions so that you see only those partitions that are relevant to your configuration.

Example

In a structure where no variant rule or no partition scheme is specified, you choose the variant Sedan and then choose the partition scheme Physical. Now, you see only the partitions that are relevant to this configuration. Specifically, with the variability applied on the partitions, the partitions Truck and Hatchback are not displayed in the configured structure.

Procedure

  1. Search for and open the product to be configured.

  2. To apply a variant rule, select the rule from the Variant list in the header.

    Teamcenter refreshes and displays the configured content based on the new configuration.

Procedure

  1. Click Configure to display the Configure panel.
  2. To apply a variant rule, select the rule from the list in the Variant section in the Configure panel.
  3. Click Configure to select the variant and close the Configure panel. Teamcenter refreshes and displays the configured content based on the new configuration.

Configure a sub-assembly by using the end item's configurator context

Consider that a structure has a configurator context set to it, you open a sub-assembly from that structure, and the sub-assembly does not have its own configurator context set to it. In such a case, the sub-assembly does not carry the configurator context of the parent assembly. However, you can set the end item to the sub-assembly and then configure the sub-assembly by using the end item's configurator context.

Procedure

  1. Search for and open the sub-assembly to be configured.
  2. Click Configure .
  3. In the Configure panel, select the parent structure as the end item. The configurator context of the parent structure is selected as the configurator context for the sub-assembly.
