requirements-management

With the live Word capability of Client for Office, you can use Microsoft Office Word to edit requirements and modify their structures in Requirements Manager. Live Word documents contain property data for requirements and requirement specifications, which you export using options in the Teamcenter Export to Word dialog box (Tools→Export→Objects to Word).

Note: Live Word is available only in the four-tier Teamcenter configuration. With the live Word capability of Client for Office, you can use Microsoft Office Word to edit requirements and modify their structures in Requirements Manager if you have installed and configured Client for Office.

Caution:

  • If the TC_Enable_Implicit_CO preference is set to True, you do not need to explicitly check out requirements before you edit or export them. Also, you do not need to check them in. However, if the TC_Enable_Implicit_CO preference is set to False, you must explicitly check out requirements before you edit or export them. You must also check them in.
  • The associated object template must contain the {%object_name} property keyword. Otherwise, you cannot edit requirements or structures in live Word.
  • Properties with dynamic or cascading lists of values (LOVs) cannot be modified with live Word.

You can make live Word changes in two ways:

  • Interactively in real time, connected to Teamcenter while the rich client is running. To obtain an interactive live Word document, you select Live Integration with Word.
  • Offline and temporarily disconnected from Teamcenter, accumulating changes for later synchronization with the structure. To obtain an offline live Word document, you select Export for structure editing and work offline after selecting Live Integration with Word.

The live Word Requirements pane is available in interactive and offline documents. This pane contains an expandable tree that shows the object hierarchy of the exported structure. Also, it gives you features for working in the structure and navigating the document content.

Note: If a requirement specification contains child requirement specifications, the nested requirement specifications are also exported to live Word. You can edit the child specifications like any other object in the requirement structure.

Note: When the fnd0Isnumbered property is set to false, the output of live and static export is different. Static export combines the paragraphs if the fnd0Isnumbered property is set to false. However, in case of live export, since Microsoft Word is connected with Teamcenter, the numbering is maintained. The fnd0Isnumbered property is set to false for objects that are imported as separate objects because of a keyword in it. When performing a static export of such objects, the object name is not exported and the body text of all such objects appears under the parent requirement as body text. This is to ensure that the imported document looks the same as the exported document.

Note: After you open a Word document using the Live Integration with Word option, and you cancel the checkout by clicking Cancel checkout, the object is not checked in if it is an Item object, not an ItemRevision object. The Cancel checkout option is available only for ItemRevision objects, not for Item objects.
