Using allocations

Making conditional allocations

You can also use allocations to determine the components included in the target structure. In this case, you can configure the source structure, and also the allocations. The basic configuration rule (if a source component is configured out, the allocation is ignored) is still enforced. From the list of allocations that are configured in, Teamcenter determines the relevant set of physical components. This may be achieved by a conditional relationship, in which you can define certain criteria by which a functional component can be fulfilled by one of many physical components. In this case, the list of parts is not related to a product structure, but is simply a list of parts. When the target parts are part of a product structure, Teamcenter determines the instances of a component to fulfill the functionality that is specified.

If you use conditional relationships, you can define a group of allocations with a set of options that are relevant to the product. You can define various conditions with these options. For example, you could set an option to describe the model of the car. Depending on the model, a particular allocation may be required. As the targets of these relationships are part of a product structure, you can apply configuration rules to the structure. If an allocation is unfulfilled, Teamcenter reports an error that the target structure is not configured properly because there are unfulfilled allocations.

Options and conditions may be used to manage conditional allocations in this way.
