Creating a separate item for a particular variant

You can create items with specific part numbers for a particular variant. You can then include the generic structure as a single component of the particular variant assembly of the product. You can do this for the top-level product and also for any subassemblies in it that have their own set of options. On the new item for the particular variant, you set fixed default values for all the options, as shown in the following figure (for example, A0100 Car Model G - Variant 1). These fixed defaults override any other defaults that are set lower down the structure at the generic item level or lower. You are therefore certain of the settings resulting from these defaults for a particular variant. Alternatively, you could use a saved variant rule instead of fixed default values, as this approach is easier to set up. The saved variant rule contains the list of default option values.
