Update a Reuse solution variant

Update a Reuse solution variant If the source product structure is modified, you can update the solution variant that is of the reuse type so that all the changes from the source product structure are propagated to the solution variant. You cannot make structural changes, such as adding, removing, or revising child items, directly to the reuse type of solution variant. Video Procedure (Optional) Set an active change notice that has the appropriate effectivity. Open an engineering BOM that has Assembly Indicator set as Configurable Assembly. Warning Do not change the state of Show Excluded by Effectivity and Show Suppressed. Their state must remain the same while creating and updating the solution variant. Open the source product structure and go to the Solution Variants tab. If the source structure is modified after the solution variant was created, the Source Assembly Modified? column displays Yes and indicates that the reuse type of the solution variant also needs to be updated. Select the reuse type of the solution variant that needs to be updated and click Update . In the Update Solution Variant panel, perform the following tasks: If required, in the Variant Rule list, select a different available variant rule. In the Properties section, review the properties. If required, in the Revision Rule list, select a different revision rule. Click Update. The solution variant that is impacted due to the changes in the source structure is updated. If a solution variant is already released, it is first revised and then updated. When you update a solution variant in the context of an active change, the updates are reflected in the change summary. After the solution variant is updated, the absolute occurrence properties for a part within the solution variant are carried forward. The absolute occurrence properties, such as Position Designator, ID in Context, and Usage Address, are also transferred if your administrator has configured them to be carried forward. Consider that a solution variant with the Solution Variant Category set as Reuse is reused for more than one variant rule, and either the variant rules or the source structure is modified in such a way that source structure will not result in the same configuration for those variant rules. In such a case, when you update the solution variant, the system splits the existing solution variant to create new solution variants as needed. This ensures an efficient reuse of the existing solution variant. Example The SVR(White) and SVR(Grey) variant rules share the same solution variant. The solution variant contains beige seat covers and headrests. Later, white thread is added to SVR(White) for the seat cover stitches. In such a situation, a new solution variant is created for SVR(White), and it contains beige seat covers, headrests, and white thread. The SVR(Grey) will still result in the existing solution variant that contained beige seat covers and headrests. To verify if a solution variant is updated correctly, open it from the Solution Variants column. If you have set an active change notice, release the active change. Click Changes , select the change, and click Release Change. Engineering BOM Management ─ Usage, 2606 Unpublished work. © 2026 Siemens
