Task status display in the task table

Task status is displayed in the task table by a colored indicator that appears next to the task name. Once the task starts, the indicator shows the current state of the task.

During the life of the schedule, task status can be updated by Schedule Manager. For example, if a task has a status of Not Started and a value for Work Complete or Work Complete Percent is entered, Schedule Manager changes the status to In Progress. If the value for Work Complete Percent is entered as 100%, Schedule Manager changes the task status to Complete.

You can customize the status indicator display (see the related "Customize the status indicator display" topic).

Task statuses

Status Color Description
Not Started None The default status of tasks when initially created. Generally indicates no work has been performed — for example, Task Work Estimate is 8 hours but Work Complete is still 0. Setting status to Not Started does not reset Percent Work Complete or Work Complete.
In Progress Green Task work is in progress. Results when Work Complete is less than the Task Work Estimate. The initial change to Work Complete or Percent Work Complete triggers Schedule Manager to move status from Not Started to In Progress.
Needs Attention Red The schedule coordinator needs to review the task and resolve issues. Schedule Manager does not automatically set this status.
Complete Blue Work on the task is complete. Occurs when Task Work Estimate equals Work Complete, or when Percent Work Complete is set to 100%, or when you drag the work-complete bar on the Gantt chart to the end of the task (which sets Work Complete to the Task Work Estimate). Task status becomes Complete regardless of the current Work Complete/Percent values once triggered. When status is set to Complete, Percent Work Complete becomes 100% (and vice versa).
Abandoned Gray No further work is being done on the task; the Work Complete value does not change. Schedule Manager does not automatically set this status.
Late Yellow The Finish date for the task has occurred but Work Complete Percent is not 100%. Schedule Manager does not automatically set this status.
Aborted White The task has been aborted.

Note: To quickly identify tasks needing attention, scan the task table for red task status indicators.
