Capturing a fixed data record in Word

In the Export to Word dialog box, the Static Snapshot output mode generates a Word document with the standard Microsoft capability. Select this mode when you want to capture a fixed record of the data as of a given time.

For example, you can send the document by e-mail and fax to customers, suppliers, and colleagues.

  • The output document contains static data for the objects and properties defined in the specification template and object template that you select.
  • The templates also determine the document layout and formatting styles.
  • The data is not synchronized with Teamcenter.
  • Changes are not applied in the underlying structure.

The Copy Snapshot to Dataset option is available if you select a single object to start the export process. Select this option to generate a Word dataset containing a fixed copy of the output. The dataset is associated with the selected object by a Static Snapshot relation. You can copy the dataset's URL to the Teamcenter clipboard by right-clicking the dataset and choosing Copy. You can then paste the URL into an e-mail message and send it to recipients such as your manager or colleagues. By clicking the URL, recipients can open the dataset in read-only mode.

Note:

  • If the snapshot dataset is not visible under the item revision, you must specify Static Snapshot as a shown relation for the item revision.
  • The content is not synchronized with Teamcenter and changes are not applied in the structure.
  • The dataset is not copied forward to new revisions of the selected object.
  • If a snapshot dataset exists for the object, it is replaced by a new dataset containing the output of this export process.
  • Teamcenter stores the previous dataset versions until the version limit is reached.
  • To find previous dataset versions with the Teamcenter Search feature, you can set the QRY_dataset_display_option preference value to 1.
  • You can set the dataset version limit with the AE_dataset_default_keep_limit preference.
