Create a budget definition

By default, Teamcenter places the new budget definition in the Newstuff folder of your Home view. Or, you can create a folder for your budget definitions, and then select that folder before you start this procedure.

Note

You cannot open the budget definition, and it does not appear in the Budgets view. The budget definition is like a template, with predefined parameters that you use to create individual budgets on selected structures. Then, these budgets appear in the Budgets view. You can open and edit these budgets as necessary.

Procedure

  1. With the Budgets view active, choose Tools→Budgets→Create Budget Definition. The New Budget Definition dialog box opens.

Note: To display the Budgets view, choose View→Show Budget.

  1. Under Properties, enter the following information:
Field Description
Name box Type a unique name for the budget. For example, use the related parameter name, such as height, weight, or power.
Unit box Type the unit of measurement for the budget values. For example, use a unit appropriate to the related parameter, such as inches, pounds, or watts.
Roll-Up list Select the expression for calculating downstream values and reporting the results upstream: SUM (reports the total of the values at each level), MIN (reports the lowest value at each level), MAX (reports the highest value at each level), AVERAGE (reports the average value at each level).
Excel Template list Select the export template for generating the live Excel worksheet. Teamcenter provides a default Excel template, SE_BUDGET_TEMPLATE. You can also select any custom template that is defined for your site.
Description box (Optional) Type additional information to describe the budget further.

Caution

The selected template's Excel Template Rules property must include the values apply_packing and budget_templates.

To edit this property in Teamcenter:

  1. Right-click the template and choose View→Properties to display the Properties dialog box. The template item, item revision, and dataset are located in the RequirementsManagement Templates/ExcelTemplates folder in your Home folder.

  2. Double-click the Excel Template Rules property.

  3. Click Finish.

The new budget definition is created in the selected folder or in your Newstuff folder.
