Visualization of electrical harness design structure and its aligned engineering BOM

Visualization of electrical harness design structure and its aligned engineering BOM You perform electrical harness design within a multi-domain environment, integrating various tools and systems to efficiently manage complex design requirements. You detail the complete specifications of the harness in an electrical CAD tool like Capital and perform the mechanical routing in NX, CATIA. The design structure is imported from CAD and you can directly publish the electrical harness using integrations into Teamcenter which generates the engineering BOM (Usage BOM or Assembly BOM). This publish action also aligns engineering BOM from electrical CAD and design structure from mechanical CAD. The harness design structure consists of body solids (without definite geometric shape, e.g. tapes, tubes, wire bundles) and geometric components (with geometric shape). Note Do not modify the already aligned structure in the alignment view and avoid performing realignments. Instead, make all changes to the original structure in the electrical CAD and mechanical CAD tools, and then republish the aligned BOM to Teamcenter. Body solids represent the physical embodiment of parts and assemblies in a 3D space, used for visualization, spatial analysis, interference checking. They help you understand the physical dimensions and interactions of each component within the assembly. They are present inside a node called the Wiring Component (MBS) node. Geometric components are aligned using standard alignment process but MBS node can not be aligned because it does not have a corresponding part node in the engineering BOM. Let's understand body solids and geometric components using an example: Imagine you are working on an electrical wiring harness for an aircraft. Within a CAD software like NX, you can model various components of the harness. These components include: Wire Bundles (Body Solids): It has bundle's diameter, bend radius, and its path within the aircraft structure in 3D. Body solids allow you to visualize how the bundle fits with other components, check for physical interference, and ensure optimal routing. Connectors (Geometric Components): These are represented as design items in Teamcenter. As a design item, they include information like vendor details, electrical ratings, and associated documentation without detailing the geometric shape. It serves as part of the engineering BOM. To visualize electrical harness design structure and its aligned engineering BOM: The Wiring Component (MBS) node is present in the harness design structure but does not have a corresponding part node in the engineering BOM published to Teamcenter. However, solid bodies present in the Wiring Component (MBS) node are present in the engineering BOM as parts, also known as Geometric Proxy Components. To visualize these structures in Teamcenter, you can create an equivalent node in the engineering BOM of type Wiring Component and manually align it to the Wiring Component (MBS) node in the design structure.
