Managing the part and design data of a product within a single structure results in a complex BOM, which is difficult to maintain, resulting in rework, delays, and losses. It is more efficient to enable independent evolution of part and design lifecycles. Teamcenter Engineering BOM address this challenge by maintaining the parts and designs as separate structures. Aligning the two structures allows you to perform BOM-driven digital mockups. The engineering BOM management further helps you align the part structure with the design, and then visualize the product structure in real-time. In Teamcenter, you can manage your engineering BOM either as an Assembly BOM or as a Usage BOM.
If you want the parts not to have their independent lifecycle, instead the parts must be used based on their occurrence properties, you must use Assembly BOM. In Assembly BOM mode of engineering BOM management, the assembly parent owns the lifecycle of the child occurrences.
If you want the parts to have their independent lifecycle and change control, referred to as part usages, you must use Usage BOM. In Usage BOM mode of engineering BOM management, a part usage can be revised and released independent of its parent assembly. A part usage has its own independent lifecycle.
As an administrator, you must set up Teamcenter for engineering BOM management.
Before you begin
Ensure that your Teamcenter setup has the following applications:

Based on your business requirements, you can install the following applications in your Teamcenter setup:
