Export data to Word
Note: You must have at least Read access to all Word export templates for your project.
Tip: If you anticipate frequent exports of an object type, you can override the default object template for that type before you start this procedure.
Procedure
Set the structure context by doing one of the following:
- To export data for all objects at all levels, select only the requirement specification at the peak level.
- To export data for one object at any level, select only the object. Data is also exported for all direct children and lower level descendants of the selected object.
- To export data for two or more objects, use the standard Windows functions for multiple selection. You can select multiple objects at the same level or at different levels. A multiple selection cannot include the requirement specification at the top level.
Note: If properties are specified in the specification template's header and footer, the properties of the first selected object are substituted for the template properties in the output document.
To open the Export to Word dialog box, choose Tools -> Export -> Objects To Word or click Export objects to Word on the toolbar.
Under Output, select one of the following modes:
- Static Snapshot generates a standard Word document without Teamcenter live Word capability. (The Copy Snapshot to Dataset check box is available if you select a single object to start the export process — it generates an additional Word document containing a static record of the output, associated with the selected object by a Fnd0ExportContent relation.)
- Live integration with Word generates a Word document with Teamcenter live Word capability. Caution: this mode requires an object template that contains the
{%object_name}property keyword, otherwise you cannot edit structure data in live Word. This mode ignores landscape orientation in specification templates — page layout is always portrait in live Word documents. - Export for Markup generates a Word document containing the markups for the selected requirement specification or requirement revision. Note: markups are not supported across different Microsoft Office versions.
Under Live options, you can also select:
- Export for structure editing and work offline generates a live Word document you can store outside of Teamcenter (e.g. local or shared drive). You can accumulate structure edits while disconnected, then commit pending edits by connecting to the Teamcenter server.
- Check out objects before export explicitly checks out the selected objects before the live Word document is generated, reserving access until you check them in. Note: by default this check box is selected and unavailable; to enable it, change the value of the REQ_checkout_objects_before_export preference.
(Optional) To use Word export templates other than the defaults, under Template Override:
- To use a different specification template than the one originally assigned to the object, select it from the Specification Template list.
- To use a different object template for a particular business object in the selected context: select the business object from the Override Object Template for list, select the template in Available Object Templates, and click the move-arrow. (Caution: for Live integration with Word, the object template must contain
{%object_name}.) - For all business objects in the selected context, leave the Override Object Template for list blank and select the template.
- To remove a business object/template override combination, click the remove button.
- To store template override settings for subsequent exports, click Save.
Click OK to generate the output document in a new Word window.
Output document behavior by mode
- Static Snapshot mode: no interactive capability with Teamcenter; cannot edit property values in the requirement structure. The initial document is read-only. Create a permanent document via File -> Save As. If Copy Snapshot to Dataset was checked, the output is also copied to an additional static Word document/dataset (must be a shown relation on the item revision to be visible).
- Live Integration with Word mode: synchronized with the Teamcenter rich client; you can change property values in the requirement structure by editing corresponding values in the live Word document.
- Export for Markup mode: you can add, delete, save, and edit your own markups using the Markup Manager in Word; you cannot change other users' markups.
