Developing requirements > Unstructured (flat file) import
Accessing the flat file functionality using the Teamcenter ribbon
From the Teamcenter ribbon in Word or Excel, you access the flat functionality from the Flat File Import list in the Requirements group.
From the Teamcenter ribbon, you can perform the following for unstructured documents.
| Function | Description |
|---|---|
| Import New | Imports the unstructured document for the first time as a new file to Teamcenter. |
| Import Update | Reimports any changes made to the unstructured document to Teamcenter after initial import. |
| Assign ID | Assigns IDs in Microsoft Word or Excel to create object identifier tags to specify requirements, paragraphs, and trace links in Teamcenter when you import the file. You also may set property values or create links when you import requirements of a certain type. You can use regular expressions for matching identifiers that can be linked or assigned to specific properties in the database. Before the import, you can preview the requirement structure for accuracy or errors. |
| Search ID | Search IDs to find existing requirements in Teamcenter. |
| Clear Highlights | Clears highlights after document preview. |
