requirements-management

The process for copying released requirement objects includes four steps:

1. Open the requirements structure in live Word

Display the Requirements pane in Word using one of the following methods:

  • Open an offline Word document containing a requirement structure previously exported from Teamcenter Systems Engineering.
  • Open and load a Teamcenter requirements structure from the Teamcenter ribbon in Word.

2. Mark for Save As

In the requirement structure in Word, select the requirement specification, requirement, or paragraph object for which you want to create a copy.

Note: The item revision of the object must be locked by being at a released state and not modifiable before you can mark it for save as. The Save As command is not available for objects that are open. An object is considered open if it is:

  • Not at a released state.
  • At a released state, but still modifiable.
  • Not checked out by another user.
  • Not locked by the access control list (ACL).

Right-click the selected requirement object and choose Mark/Unmark for Save As and Replace. When you mark an object for save as in Word, the save as symbol displays next to the object in the Requirements pane (example: Spec1/A;1–Robot Reqts > Req1/A;1–Task Reqts > Req2/A;1–Robot Station).

3. Make changes

You can now edit object properties for the new copy of the requirement object in Word.

(Optional) If you want to cancel your edits, you must unmark the object for save as before saving the Word document.

Note:

  • You cannot unmark for save as if the object contains a child node that is marked for revise, save as, or delete.
  • The unmark does not traverse the structure; only the selected object is unmarked.

To unmark an object marked for save as, right-click the object in the Requirements pane in Word and choose Mark/UnMark for Save As and Replace. In the Unmark Selected Node dialog box, click Yes. The save as symbol is removed from the selected object. Any edits are canceled and no copy is created.

4. Commit the changes to Teamcenter

When you save the document in Word, the changes are saved to Teamcenter and the following occurs:

  • A new object is created with a unique ID in accordance with the deep copy rules configured for Save As.
  • All changes made to the new object including any property and body text changes are saved in Teamcenter.
  • All the objects under the existing object are copied by reference to the copied object.
  • If the selected object is in a precise requirement structure:
    • In Teamcenter, the selected object item revision is replaced by the new item revision.
    • In Word, the new item revision of the object appears in the requirement structure.
  • If the selected object is in an imprecise requirement structure:
    • In Teamcenter, the selected object item is replaced by the new object item.
    • In Word, the new object item appears in the requirement structure.
  • The mark for save as symbol no longer appears for the object in the Requirements pane.
