Aligning structure items internally
Teamcenter supports several methods of internal alignment; you may apply one or more of them, depending on your product data. Part and design alignment You can align any types of items that are appropriate for your business practices, for example, parts with CAD designs, or parts with documents. You can globally associate a part and a design, in which case all revisions of the part and design are automatically associated. The publish link between the items is revision independent. Alternatively, you can choose to evaluate the alignment each time the part or design is revised. This configuration ensures the design can always be correctly visualized wherever it occurs in the structure. Allocations Allocations provide a similar ability to publish a link between two items to the part and design alignment feature. They provide more traceability but do not support the copying of transforms and shapes. Allocations can be configured and managed, for example, by applying effectivity under an incremental change. Assign in Multi-Structure Manager Use assignments to create a composition that represents a layout for design in context work across several structures or products. Assign in Manufacturing Process Planner Use assignments in a process to consume parts in operations. Each time you make an assignment in Manufacturing Process Planner, Teamcenter creates an new occurrence in the operation that is corresponds to the selected BOM line. The part and the operation share an absolute occurrence. You can perform an accountability check on the structure to verify that all parts are consumed by an operation, based on the shared absolute occurrence IDs. Platform Designer You can use part and design alignment to complement Platform Designer, if you work with layouts (that is, an ad hoc collection of installation assemblies), rather than installation assemblies themselves. The context for publishing links must be an installation assembly, rather than a layout. BOM alignment You can align BOMs of different types by indicating that occurrences in each BOM are functionally equivalent. For example, a manufacturing engineer may link a configured EBOM root with a configured MBOM root. When these structures are linked, all further assignments to the MBOM from the EBOM create logically equivalent MBOM occurrences. Teamcenter allows you validate these occurrence links with an alignment check and keeps the data of aligned occurrences synchronized.
