Using supersedures

When evaluating an engineering change, it can be useful to know the genealogy or replacement history of a part. A supersedure defines the part or parts that replaced a component. Create supersedures when defining an engineering change so that the genealogy can later be displayed. This feature is useful for evaluating the impact of engineering changes on parts that may still be in service for products with long lifetimes, for example, in aerospace environments. (Associated engineering changes may be required for these earlier, but still active, parts.)

Note You can define supersedures with revision changes and not with incremental changes. Components can be added to and removed from a product structure over its life cycle. Some of these additions and replacements can be related together as a replacement. For example, two added parts can replace the form and functionality of one canceled component, making a replacement. The parent assemblies of the components must be the Affected and Problem Items of an engineering change created in the Change Manager application. You can define a supersedure to record this replacement history. You can then view a graphical representation of such replacement, as a supersedure history, starting from a selected occurrence of a part and continuing to the following superseded or preceding part. This allows you to compare the loaded structure before and after such changes.
