Duplicate a requirement structure

You can create a new set of requirements from an existing set by duplicating the requirement specification structure at the level you select.

Procedure

  1. To duplicate the entire requirement specification structure, select the top line of the structure in the Requirements view. Otherwise, select the line for the substructure or the structure object you want to duplicate.

  2. Choose File→Duplicate. The Duplicate dialog box appears. You can expand or collapse the structure tree that is displayed in the dialog box.

  3. (Optional) Select a folder in which to place the duplicate.

Note: The folder must already exist in Teamcenter. If you do not select a folder, the duplicate is placed on the Teamcenter clipboard, unless the Run in Background option was selected.

    • In the Duplicate dialog box, click Search a folder by name next to the Copy Results To: box.

Note: If a folder name already exists in the Copy Results To: box, click Clear option first, if you want to save to a different folder.

    • In the Open by Name dialog box, type the folder name search criteria in the Name box, and then click Find.

    • In the Open by Name dialog box, select the row with the folder name to copy to, and then click OK. The folder name appears in the Copy Results To: box.

  4. Select or clear the check box located at the left of each line in the structure to refine the contents of the duplicate you create.

    • Select the check box to copy the object, creating a new object in the duplicated structure.
    • Clear the check box to create a reference to the object in the duplicated structure.
  5. Define how the duplicate is created:

Option Description
Run in Background If selected, the duplication process is run in a separate server thread allowing you to perform other Teamcenter tasks while the duplication process is running. (You receive an Outlook email and a Teamcenter mail message to inform you when the processing starts and completes. Any errors in processing are reported in Teamcenter.)
Select All If selected, all requirements in the list are duplicated. If cleared, you can select the specific lines to be duplicated. (Items not selected are referenced in the duplicate structure, rather than duplicated.)
Select rows assigned to projects in common with top item project assignments If selected, the rows for item revisions in the same project as the top item are automatically selected for duplication.
New Item ID by Selection — Assign New IDs If selected, you can specify the naming pattern of duplicated items that are included in the duplicate. The new identifiers are not applied until you create the duplicate. Sub-options: Prefix, Suffix, Replace/With.
Default ID Mapping — Assign New IDs If selected, you can modify the naming pattern of original items before they are included in the duplicate. Sub-options: Prefix, Suffix, Replace/With.
Projects — Assign Projects to New Items If selected, items created during the cloning process can be automatically assigned to one or more projects. (Default setting controlled by the DuplicateAssignToProject preference.) Sub-options: Add projects to be assigned, Delete selected projects.

Click Apply to update the structure display if you change the default mapping for the New Item ID by Selection or Default ID Mapping check boxes.

  1. Click OK to create the duplicate structure.

When the duplicate process is complete, Systems Engineering displays the Duplicate Results message box.

The duplicate is saved in the folder you selected to copy results to, if any. It is also placed on the Teamcenter clipboard unless the Run in Background option was selected.

The Duplicate Results message box indicates whether the duplicate operation was successful. It also lists any instances where, because of owner permissions, Teamcenter could not duplicate an object selected for cloning in the original structure but, instead, referenced the object.
