Calculate BOM properties dynamically using the variant configuration
Calculate BOM properties dynamically using the variant configuration You can set the BOM properties based on Product Configurator feature selections so that their values are calculated dynamically by applying the variant configuration. You can then create a solution variant using these BOM properties. The values that are calculated dynamically persist while creating a solution variant. By setting the Product Configurator feature on BOM properties, you ensure that the product structure is automatically enriched with the variant configuration-specific details that are critical for downstream processes, without manual intervention. This ensures accuracy, reduces errors, and streamlines workflows across the product lifecycle. Example When configuring a product like an industrial pump, selecting a specific motor type, such as Explosion-Proof, might require unique assembly instructions or special fasteners. By mapping the Motor_Type feature to the motor's BOM line properties, you can automatically populate these critical details. This ensures that manufacturing receives precise, configuration-specific guidance for every pump variant, reducing errors and ensuring compliance. Prerequisites The administrator has configured the occurrence property that can be used for mapping the BOM property with the configurator feature. Video Procedure Open a product structure that has the variability scope associated with it. Understand which the occurrence property to use for mapping the BOM line property with the configurator feature. Arrange the columns of the work area so that the occurrence property column is visible. Create the mapping for the BOM property for which you want to set the properties: Click Edit to edit the occurrence property column. For example, AIE Occurrence Name. In the occurrence property column, set the value for the BOM line property. The BOM properties have display names or system names, and the system names are in the bl_xxx format. You must use the system names for the property. For example, if you choose the AIE Occurrence Note column to store the mapping and you want to set the value of the Motor Type family on the BOM line property, then enter the mapping in the <bl_occurrence_note=[Teamcenter]Motor_Type> format. Tip The mapping is in the <bl_property_name=[Namespace]Feature> format. If the mapping is not defined in this format, the mapping is not set. Click Save Edits to save the mapping information. Click Variant Configuration, select the feature, and click Apply Configuration . Results The BOM properties are set based on Product Configurator feature selections so that their values are calculated dynamically using the variant configuration. These values do not persisted on the original product structure. What to do next After setting the BOM properties to calculate their values dynamically by applying the variant configuration, you can create a solution variant.
