requirements-management

The process for revising released requirement objects includes four steps:

1. Open the requirements structure in live Word

Display the Requirements pane in Word using one of the following methods:

  • Open an offline Word document containing a requirement structure previously exported from Teamcenter Systems Engineering.
  • Open and load a Teamcenter requirements structure from the Teamcenter ribbon in Word.

2. Mark for Revise

In the requirements structure in Word, select the requirement specification, requirement, or paragraph object for which you want to create a new revision.

Note: The item revision of the object must be locked by being at a released state and not modifiable before you can mark it for revise. The Revise command is not available for item revision objects that are open. An item revision object is considered open if it is:

  • Not at a released state.
  • At a released state, but still modifiable.
  • Not checked out by another user.
  • Not locked by the access control list (ACL).

Right-click the selected requirement object and choose Mark/Unmark for Revise and Replace. When you mark an object for revise in Word, the revise symbol displays next to the object in the Requirements pane (example: Spec1/A;1–Robot Reqts > Req1/A;1–Task Reqts > Req2/A;1–Robot Station).

3. Make changes

You can now edit object properties for the new revision of the requirement object in Word.

(Optional) If you want to cancel your edits, you must unmark the object for revise before saving the Word document.

Note:

  • You cannot unmark for revise if the object contains a child node that is marked for save as, revise, or delete.
  • The unmark does not traverse the structure; only the selected object is unmarked.

To unmark an object marked for revision, right-click the object in the Requirements pane in Word and choose Mark/UnMark for Revise and Replace. In the Unmark Selected Node dialog box, click Yes. The revise symbol is removed from the selected object. Any edits are canceled and a new revision object is not created.

4. Commit the changes to Teamcenter

When you save the document in Word, the changes are saved to Teamcenter and the following occurs:

  • A new revision of the object is created with a unique ID in accordance with the deep copy rules. (For more information about deep copy rules, see the Business Modeler IDE documentation.)
  • All changes made to the new revision, including any property and body text changes, are saved in Teamcenter.
  • If the selected object is in a precise requirement structure:
    • In Teamcenter, the existing item revision of the selected object in the structure is replaced by the new item revision.
    • In Word, the new item revision for the object appears in the requirements structure.
  • If the selected object is in an imprecise requirement structure:
    • In Teamcenter, the new item revision is added to the item revisions for the requirement object, and appears in the requirements structure.
    • In Word, the new item revision is added to the item revisions for the requirement object, and appears in the requirements structure.
    • Note: Because the structure is imprecise, it points to the latest item revision for the requirement object.
  • The mark for revise symbol no longer appears for the object in the Requirements pane.
