Prepare the Excel file for importing a structure

Prepare an Excel spreadsheet for importing structures into Teamcenter by following specific guidelines for mandatory fields, reference properties, vendor-part data, and handling multiple parts, assemblies, or occurrence-based substitutes.

To import a structure from Excel, you must prepare the Excel file in a specific way. You can download the sample Excel file to create your own Excel file. The sample Excel file contains the guidelines on how to arrange the data that you want to import.

Mandatory points

The top row must have a title, for example, Primary Object.

The cells in the second row must have the headers Tc_Level and Tc_ObjectType. The header Tc_Level must be in column A and Tc_ObjectType must be in column B.

If you are importing a structure for Usage BOM, the cells in the second row must have the headers Tc_Level, Tc_ObjectType and Tc_UsageRevisionType.The header Tc_Level must be in column A, Tc_ObjectType must be in column B, and Tc_UsageRevisionType must be in column C.

The properties Name, ID, and Revision are mandatory.

If you are importing a structure for Usage BOM, the properties Name, ID, and Revision are mandatory. You can also include occurrence properties, for example, Stock Disposition and NX Name.

While you import a structure, the elements that occur multiple times under a single parent in the structure are uniquely identified by certain properties. It is recommended that you use these properties as columns in the input spreadsheet. To get these properties, you may refer to the values in the AWC_Occ_Unique_Identifier preference. When you reimport the same structure, make sure that the values for these properties are correctly set. Otherwise, you might not get the expected results.

You must include in column A at the end.

If you do not want to update the part or occurrence properties, leave the corresponding cells in the input spreadsheet blank. Teamcenter ignores blank cells in the input spreadsheet.

Import a structure along with reference properties

You can import structures with certain reference properties, such as Unit of Measure, Owner, and Group. You can also import any other reference property with an LOV.

After you add the display string of a reference property to the Excel sheet, Teamcenter maps this string to the correct reference object.

Import a structure along with vendor-part data

To import vendor-part data, you must specify the secondary objects along with the primary ones. Thus, you must fill in the Tc_Secondary_ObjectType, Tc_Secondary_Relation, and Vendor ID fields.

The Vendor ID that you specify must exist in the Teamcenter database.

Tc_Secondary_ObjectType must be the first column in the Secondary Object section.

Import multiple parts

To import multiple parts, you can add them, excluding any assemblies, to the Excel file. You must specify the Tc_Level of each part as zero (0).

As Teamcenter ignores occurrence properties, you need not specify them.

After you import multiple parts, Teamcenter opens only the first part.

Import multiple assemblies

To import multiple assemblies, you can add them to the Excel file. You must specify the Tc_Level of each top-level part in an assembly as zero (0) and its children as 1 or 2 and so on as per the hierarchy of items.

Teamcenter considers each top-level part as a new structure.

After you import multiple assemblies, Teamcenter opens only the first assembly.

Import multiple types of secondary objects

You can import multiple types of secondary objects for both an item and an item revision.

If you are importing a structure for Usage BOM, you can import multiple types of secondary objects for a part.

While importing related objects, you can specify the object type and the relation type.

If a related object already exists, Teamcenter relates the primary object to the related object. If a related object does not exist, Teamcenter creates a new related object.

If you do not specify any value in the Tc_Primary_To_Secondary_Relation column, Teamcenter considers the following values, by default: For vendor-manufacturing related parts, the value is item-to-rev and for any other parts that are not related to vendor manufacturing, the value is rev-to-rev.

Import occurrence-based substitutes

To import the occurrence-based substitutes, set the Is Substitute column to Yes in Excel for every substitute part.

The primary part and its substitute must have the same value in the Tc_Level column in Excel.

The primary part must be defined above the substitute in the Excel.

The primary part is a line with no value in the Is Substitute column.

The substitute part is a line defined below the primary part.

The above image shows that the structure of the front door assembly is being imported from Excel. In this structure:

Aluminum Door Shell and Carbon Fiber Door Shell are substitutes for Steel Door Shell

Chrome-plated Handle and Sport handle with Keyless Entry are substitutes for Standard Handle Black

Electric Window Regulator and Premium Electric Regulator with Anti-pinch are substitutes for Manual Window Regulator

Heated Mirror and Power-folding Mirror with Turn Signal are substitutes for Basic Side Mirror
