Visualize color parts

Visualize color parts Preview your products with their assigned color appearances in the 3D viewer before generating color parts in the Bill of Materials (BOM). You use RGB definitions for flat color representation and SVM definitions for realistic appearances that include color, gloss, and texture properties helping you to evaluate the final appearance of the color. Prerequisites Color appearances are created and associated with the color codes. Color codes are assigned to appearance areas within the color themes. Color themes are created. (Optional) Visual materials are attached to color appearance objects to allow for SVM visualization. Expressions are applied to the variant rules so that the associated color theme is applicable when a specific variant rule is selected. Video The following video shows how to visualize your product with assigned color appearances in the 3D viewer. Procedure Open an Assembly BOM or a Usage BOM with a variability scope attached, and go to the Content tab. Navigate to your product structure in the BOM view, and click the 3D tab to open the 3D viewer. The product is displayed in the default CAD color. In the 3D viewer toolbar, click Viewer Options. In the Viewer Options panel, select the Use Variant Defined Color Information check box. Select one of the following color definition types: Option Description Use RGB Definition Visualizes your product using RGB color definitions for a flat color representation. Use SVM Definition Visualizes your product using SVM definitions for a realistic appearance that includes color, gloss, and texture properties. Note The available options depend on which color definitions are created for your color appearances. If SVM data is not available for a part, the system uses RGB data or the default CAD color. In the BOM view, select the variant rule that specifies your color theme to apply it to the product structure. The 3D viewer updates to display the product with the colors defined in the selected color theme. (Optional) To view only the parts with color, filter out parts with a finish type of None or Less Finish in the BOM view. Note Color parts and less-finishd parts occupy the same position in the 3D model. Filtering to show only color parts provides a clearer visualization of the final appearance color. The 3D viewer updates to show only the parts that have color. (Optional) To compare RGB and SVM visualizations, return to Viewer Options and change the color definition type. Note If SVM data is not available for a part, the system displays the color in the RGB or default CAD color. The 3D viewer updates to display the product using the selected color definition type. Results The 3D viewer displays your product with the assigned color appearances. You can now evaluate the colors before generating color parts in the BOM. Note If your product structure includes subassemblies with color appearances and generated color parts, the color parts and appearance information from subassemblies are automatically inherited and displayed in the complete BOM structure.
