Maintaining Smart Discovery Indexing

Delete the Smart Discovery index of a product using Active Workspace

Deleting the Smart Discovery index of a product is a significant action that must be taken with careful consideration, as it directly impacts engineering users' ability to search and discover information. Delete an index of a product only in specific situations, including index inconsistency and performance optimization.

Warning: Only delete the Smart Discovery index of a product when absolutely necessary. This action disables the Smart Discovery Indexing process for the product, meaning that the product may require reindexing. Reindexing can take several days, depending on the product size.

Procedure

  1. From Launcher, click Indexer and Search Administration Dashboard. (If this option is unavailable, search for it. You can pin it from the search results for future access.)

  2. Click Smart Discovery Index.

  3. Perform one of the following:

    Delete the index from Summary:

    • From Summary, click the Indexed status bar.
    • Select a structure that is indexed and click Delete Index.
    • Click Yes to confirm that you want to delete the index.

    Delete the index from Diagnostics:

    • From Diagnostics, select a query and enter the specific search criteria.
    • Click Get Indexing Status.
    • In Status Summary, click Indexed.
    • Select a structure and click Delete Index.
    • Click Yes to confirm that you want to delete the index.

Results

The index for the selected product is removed. Deleting the Smart Discovery index of a product does not modify its structure, and the product can be reindexed. Deleting the Smart Discovery index of a product might improve the search and filtering performance for the remaining products.

What to do next

It is recommended to purge the legacy data of a product that is frozen, released, or retired.
