Duplicating requirement structures

A requirement specification can be duplicated to create a new structure. You use the File→Duplicate command to duplicate the structure.

You can duplicate the entire requirement specification structure or a substructure.

If you do not have access rights to a substructure in the original structure being duplicated, the substructure cannot be duplicated. Instead, Teamcenter creates references to the substructure in the duplicate.

The duplication operation uses deep copy rules, defined by your Teamcenter administrator, to determine whether datasets and attachments to the original structure are copied to the duplicate.

Trace links in the source structure are preserved in the duplicate.

The duplication process places the duplicate in a folder if one is selected. The new structure is also placed on the Teamcenter clipboard, unless the Run in Background command is selected for asynchronous processing. During asynchronous processing, Teamcenter runs the duplication process in a separate server thread and not in the current thread that initiated the duplication request, so you can perform other Teamcenter tasks while the duplication process is running. This is important when duplicating large structures that could have long processing times. You receive an Outlook email and a Teamcenter mail message to inform you when the processing starts and completes. Any errors in processing are reported in Teamcenter.

Two preferences are used for duplicating requirement structures:

Preference Description
DuplicateRunInBackground Set this user preference to true to automatically select the Run in Background check box in the Duplicate... dialog box.
DuplicateAssignToProject Set this user preference to true to automatically select the Assign Projects to New Items check box and expand the section under the Projects header in the Duplicate... dialog box.
