Developing requirements > Editing requirement content
Insert a dataset reference in a Word document
Procedure
- In Teamcenter, select an Image, JPEG, GIF, or TIF dataset, and choose Edit→Copy Reference.
- Open a Word document using either the MS Word view in Systems Engineering, the File→Open in MSWord Application menu command, or by exporting a Word document for live editing.
- Place the cursor where you want to insert the reference, and then paste the contents into the body text of the requirement.
- To convert the reference to a hyperlink, press the Enter key after inserting the reference.
- Save the document and close it.
Results
When you reopen the document, a URL to the parent of the dataset replaces the reference in the Word document. If you click the URL, the parent object opens in Teamcenter. If you are not logged on to Teamcenter, you are asked to log on.
In Teamcenter, when you upload a file as a named reference, it does not appear as a relation to the dataset unless Fnd0_Symbolic_Link is added as a value to the Dataset_DefaultChildProperties preference. If this value exists, the file appears under the dataset with the Symbolic Link relation.
Note: If you revise the referenced object in Teamcenter, the reference in Word continues to point to the original version.
