How license use is calculated

When a user logs on, Teamcenter requests checkout of a seat license from the assigned license server. As the user performs actions beyond foundation functionality, such as actions that are part of Change Manager and Requirements Manager features, Teamcenter requests checkout of corresponding feature keys from the license server. With this system, each user has appropriate access to the system from any Teamcenter client, and purchase of licenses and keys can be minimized. The license-used count for each seat license level comprises the sum of the following: All users defined as active at the level. Plus those users who logged on during the current calendar month with that level, but are now either set to inactive or are assigned a different seat level. An inactive user who never logs on during a calendar month is not added to the used count. Example A customer purchases 10 Author and 100 Consumer licenses. The customer adds 10 active Author users and 100 active Consumer users to Teamcenter. When a user logs on to Teamcenter, the system checks out that license from the license server. If all of the active Teamcenter users log on, then the customer has exactly the correct amount of licenses and all users have access. When on January 1 user X, an Author level user, logs on, one Teamcenter Author license is checked out to user X for the remainder of the calendar month. On January 5, the administrator sets one of the 100 active Consumer users who have never logged on to inactive, and then changes user X to a Consumer level license. On January 10, user X logs on, and one Consumer license is checked out to user X for the remainder of the calendar month. In this case, user X consumes both an Author license and a Consumer license until February 1. Because all 10 Author licenses and all 100 Consumer licenses are assigned to active users or checked out, the administrator cannot add another active Author user until February 1. Example Chris, an Occasional author, logs on for 45 minutes a day each of seven days early in a month. 7 logons x 1 hour minimum = 7 hours On two days later in the month, Chris logs on multiple times throughout the entire day, accumulating the daily maximum for each day. 2 days x 7.5 hours = 15 hours At this point, Chris has accumulated 22 hours use, more than the maximum 20 hours, but still less than the maximum of five unique calendar days at over an hour per day. Chris can continue to log on until both the maximum hours and maximum days are reached. If a user who is assigned to the Occasional author seat level regularly exceeds the time limit, then the user should be reassigned to the Author license seat level.
