Create a custom note

You can create a custom note from Systems Engineering or Requirements Manager.

Procedure

1. Choose one of these methods to create a custom note:
   • Select a folder or the object where you want to add a custom note and choose File→New→Custom Note.
   • Select a folder or the object where you want to add a custom note and click Custom Note on the toolbar.
   • Create a custom note from the Quick Create bar in the Requirements view.
   • To create custom notes on trace links, the trace link must be displayed in the Trace Links view.
2. In the New Custom Note dialog box, select Custom Note from the list and click Next or, alternatively, double-click Custom Note.
3. Enter the following information:

Field name	Definition	Valid values
ID	Specifies the ID of the custom note (required).	Alphanumeric string (1–128 characters). Leave the field blank to automatically assign a unique ID using the displayed format defined by the naming rule for custom notes, click the list button to select a format and click Assign, or type a unique ID if no naming rule is used.
Revision	The revision of the custom note (required).	Alphanumeric string (1–32 characters). Leave the field blank to automatically assign the revision.
Name	The name of the custom note (required).	Alphanumeric string (1–128 characters)
Description	The description of the custom note (optional).	Alphanumeric string (1–240 characters)

4. (Optional) Click Next to assign the custom note to a project.
5. Click Finish to create the custom note.

Tip: To display the custom notes using the Custom Notes view, select the custom note or the object with the custom note and choose Window→Show View→Other→Systems Engineering→Custom Notes or click Custom Notes Manager on the toolbar.

Results

If you selected a folder, the custom note is created under the folder (Home→Newstuff). If you selected an object, the attachment indicator appears in the Notes column for the associated object in the Requirements view.
