Structure Management on Active Workspace ─ Usage

Split the occurrences of an item based on variant criteria

Considering your business requirement, you can split the occurrences of an element based on variant criteria.

Suppose the Front Exterior Assembly contains a single, generic Headlight Assembly occurrence. However, the bus model is sold in different regions, including North America and Europe, with distinct regulatory requirements for headlights. For example, the headlight requirements are amber turn signals in North America, clear in Europe, and different beam patterns. In this situation, you split the Headlight Assembly occurrence into multiple variant-specific occurrences. Each new occurrence contains a region-specific headlight part.

Prerequisites

Procedure

  1. Search for the occurrence and click Edit Structure > Split by Variant. The Split panel appears and displays that the element is split into two occurrences and it also displays the variant formula.
  2. Click Split.

Results

The two occurrences of the element are created with the same variant condition. You can adjust the variant formula. If you split the occurrences of the element as a part of an active change, the changes, including the creation of the new occurrences and the modifications of the existing occurrences, are tracked.
