Global and regional licenses

License files can be purchased and generated for either global or regional use. Typically, an uplift charge is incurred for a global license. Global licensing can facilitate Teamcenter administration and access for users who travel outside the region where the license server exists. Purchasing both types of license files can make sense when a company has a sizable group of users who do not travel outside a region as well as users who do travel outside a region. General principles of global vs. regional licenses A soldto ID cannot have both global and regional licenses. If both license types are required, then they must have separate soldto IDs. A license server can serve only one type of licenses, either global licenses or regional licenses. A global license can provide access to users physically located outside the region of the global license server as well as users located within the region of the license server. A Teamcenter user may only point to 1 license server. All Teamcenter licenses and add-on modules the user needs must exist on that 1 license server. Example A user who requires the use of an Author seat, and Change and Classification features, must point to a license server that contains all three licenses. If regional license users travel outside their home license server region, then they cannot access their home region license. They must use a global license or a regional license served by a license server in the region where they are physically located. Global vs. regional licenses Q & A When licensing Teamcenter, does the location of the Database Server matter? No, only the location of the license server and the physical location of the users. When licensing Teamcenter, does the location of the Application (Enterprise) Server matter? No, only the location of the license server and the physical location of the users. In a cloud deployment, does every license need to be global? No. Can a company have both a regional and a global license server if they only have one Teamcenter database server and Application server? Yes, as long as they are separate servers. Can a company run a Multi-Site deployment in 2 regions with 2 regional licenses? Yes. If a small company located in 1 region was to deploy to the cloud, where would their license server need to be? Could they use regional licenses or do they require global? Their license server could be either on-premise or in the cloud. They could use a regional license since they have no users outside of the 1 region. Example Scenario 1 - Single region Teamcenter deployment Enterprise server, Database server and License server(s) exist in the same region as the User. Multiple organizations (such as Manufacturing and Engineering) in a company can have separate license servers/soldtos. A single regional license is all that is required as long as the users remain in the region. Example Scenario 2 - Two-region Teamcenter deployment Teamcenter Application Server and Database server are in the US with clients in both US and Asia. Three licensing options are possible: 1 global license – All licenses require the global uplift 2 regional licenses (1 in the US and 1 in Australia) – No global uplift 1 regional license server to serve the US and 1 global license server to serve outside of the US – Global uplift paid on licenses on the global license only. Example Scenario 3 - Three-Region Deployment 3 region Teamcenter deployment using Multi-Site in 2 regions – Teamcenter application servers in the US and Europe. Database in the US shared with Europe via Multi-Site. All users accessing the US Site are in the US. Europe site used by clients in Europe and Asia. Three licensing options are possible: 1 global license – All licenses require the global uplift 3 regional license servers (1 in each of the US, Europe, and Asia) – No global uplift Combination of 1 or 2 regional license servers to serve the local region(s) and 1 global license server to serve outside of the region(s) – global uplift paid on licenses on the global license only. Example Scenario 4 - Cloud deployment Teamcenter deployed to the Cloud – Teamcenter Enterprise Server and Database server are in the Cloud with clients in US, Europe and Australia Licensing options Q & A Does it matter in what country the cloud service provider is located?
