Discontinue a part usage from a Usage BOM

If a part becomes unavailable because of a logistic issue or raw material shortage, you can temporarily remove its part usage and reintroduce it into the product later.Example Imagine that you have a released part usage for a car GPS module which is effective from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2024. Due to a semiconductor shortage, you want to discontinue the part usage for the car GPS module for 7 months, starting June 1, 2023 until December 31, 2023. After December 31, 2023, you want to reintroduce this module back into the product. You can do this by removing the released part usage of the GPS module for a specific duration.To discontinue a part usage:Procedure Create a change notice with a release effectivity range that covers the duration of the part usage discontinuation, and set it as an active change.

Open the released Usage BOM. Right-click the impacted part usage and click Remove .

The impacted part usage is split due to effectivity cutback, creating a new Usage Revision which is effective for the required period. A new part usage is created with a value of True for the Discontinue property. The discontinued part usage is never configured in the product. You cannot include it by using the Show excluded by effectivity toggle, and it is not available in the History tab, but you can find it using search. Note Discontinuing a part usage does not discontinue its corresponding part, because that part may be reused in other products.
