Create a branch

Procedure From the navigation pane, click My Teamcenter. Select a folder and then choose File→New→Other. My Teamcenter displays the New Business Object dialog box. Select Branch and click Next. My Teamcenter displays the Object Create Information-Branch dialog box. Enter a name and (optionally) a description for the new branch. You should also choose whether to make the branch active once it is created. By default, the contents of the baseline are associated with it using the Contents relation, but you can change this if other relations are listed.

Note When a branch is inactive, no content can be associated with it. That is, you cannot paste an item revision or another branch on an inactive branch. However, an inactive branch is still available for structure configuration. You can activate or deactivate a branch at any time by left-clicking it, choosing Edit Properties, and then changing the state. When the properties are shown correctly, click Finish and Teamcenter creates the branch in the selected folder. (Optional) Set an effective period for the branch by right-clicking it, choosing Properties on Relation, and then setting a start date and an end date. By default: The start date is the date you pasted the branch under its predecessor. The end date is empty, that is, the effectivity of the branch is open ended. Likewise, you can specify effective periods for any of the item revisions in the branch. You can perform revision configuration of structures in Structure Manager based on the defined branches. New branch entries are added to the revision rule entry list, allowing you to specify the branch in a revision rule. You can specify only one branch definition in a revision rule. You can add contents to a branch in My Teamcenter by copying the relevant item revisions and pasting them on the branch, as shown in the following example. Teamcenter configures each of the item revisions that you paste on the branch when you apply a revision rule in Structure Manager that includes the branch. You can also create branch chains by pasting a branch under another branch. In the following branch chain, branches 03 and 04 are pasted under branch 02 and inherits all the branch content (item revisions) of branch 03 and branch 04. You can still paste unique item revisions under branches 03 and 04 if required.
