Add parts and part usages to build a Usage BOM

A part usage defines how a part is used in a product, which is represented as a Usage BOM. Add parts and part usages to build a Usage BOM.Procedure Set an active change.

Search for Collaborative Product EBOM and open the structure.

If you are adding parts to the Usage BOM for the first time, go to the Content tab.

Click Add

Child.

In the Add Part panel, to add an existing part, go to Search or Palette.ORTo add a new part, click the New tab in the panel, and:

Enter the required information.

Select the Design Required check box if you need a corresponding design.

Select the Automatically Create Design check box if you want the design to be automatically created and aligned to the part. OR Click Add Design to manually create a design. In the Add Design panel, enter the required information, and click Add. After manually adding a design, if you select the Automatically Create Design check box, the manually added design is ignored, and a new design will be automatically created by Teamcenter and aligned to the part.

In the Usage Properties section, enter the required information for part usage.

Click Add to include the part and its usage in the product BOM.

If your administrator has enabled effectivity propagation on your structure, then you can see Occurrence ECN In and Occurrence ECN Out properties for your parts. They show the responsible change notice names due to which the part has derived its element effectivity start and end date respectively.

Requirement

Action

Add parts at the same level

Select a part and click Add

Sibling. OR

Right-click the part and click Add Sibling :

In the Part column, click the cell and click Add . After adding the part, click Save Edits .

Add child parts

Select a part and click Add

Child. OR

Right-click a part and click Add Child :

Click the cell in the Part column, and click Add . After adding the part, click Save Edits .

Adding child parts to a parent part builds a structure. Open the structure in a separate window or a separate tab to maintain it independently or duplicate it.

Reuse parts from other Usage BOM

Carry over the parts to this BOM, along with other Usage BOM data.

Include software artifacts

Include embedded software artifacts that are made available as engineering parts by the administrator. Example The part Tire Pressure Sensor in the product Crosskart can be programmed such that when the air pressure drops below the product's recommended level, the sensor captures this information, and the dashboard indicator lights up. Software developers create and maintain the software artifacts using the functionality.

Include parts that already exist in Teamcenter

To reuse existing parts/assemblies (revision controlled as well as part usage controlled), ensure that these parts are qualified as engineering Parts by the administrator.

Click Add

Child. Search for and add the part from Search or Palette.

A part usage is created for the part to define its usage in the Usage BOM. Note In case of revision controlled assembly, effectivity propagation or cutback is not supported.

Include ECAD parts

Reuse ECAD parts created and managed in integrated Electronic Design Automation (EDA) applications in the Usage BOM. ECAD parts are represented both as designs (in the design BOM) and as parts (in the engineering BOM), hence they are shared between design and part structure. Note It is recommended to edit these parts in the integrated EDA application, and not directly in the BOM.

Include an existing solution variant

To reuse an existing solution variant in the Usage BOM:

Click Add

Child. Search for and add the solution variant from Search or Palette.

Remove a part from the Usage BOM

Select the part and click Edit Structure

Remove . OR

Right click the part and click Remove . The element may split due to effectivity cutback. The part usage of the selected part may get discontinued depending upon effectivity overlap.

What to do next

Set the maturity level of a part and a part usage. If needed, edit the part to change its assembly indicator. If you choose Configurable Assembly or Generic Part for the assembly indicator: Add a variability scope to the part to get the variability data. Author a variant condition for the part usage to define when the part must be used in the product structure.
