Map Usage BOM and design for alignment

Note: This topic appears twice in the source table of contents — once under "Configure the engineering BOM generation" and once under "Configure the design structure generation" — with identical content in both places.

Users can generate a Usage BOM from a design structure that already exists in Teamcenter. Similarly, users can generate a design structure from an existing Usage BOM. In the generated BOM, the top most line item of the Usage BOM and design structure are automatically linked with each other. This is because, by default, the top most line item of these BOMs are mapped with each other in the Pma0_EBOMRoot_DBOMRoot_Type preference as follows:

EBOMRootType:Ebm0PartProduct,DBOMRootType:Design

Here, Ebm0PartProduct and Design are the internal names of the business objects to which the Usage BOM and design structure belong to. You can change the default mapping and can map additional business objects for alignment. For example, to map Usage BOM and designs belonging to CustomProductBOM and CustomDesign business objects, you add the following value to the Pma0_Part_Design_Type preference:

EBOMRootType:CustomProductBOM,DBOMRootType:CustomDesign

A Usage BOM can be mapped to more than one type of design. Similarly, a design can be mapped to more than one type of Usage BOM. For example, your business requirement is that for both Design and CustomDesign types, the generated Usage BOM must be of the type Ebm0PartProduct. For this requirement, you include the following values in the preference:

EBOMRootType:Ebm0PartProduct,DBOMRootType:Design
EBOMRootType:Ebm0PartProduct,DBOMRootType:CustomDesign

When users generate a Usage BOM from a design structure of type Design or CustomDesign, the generated product BOM is of the type Ebm0PartProduct. Whereas, if the users generate a design structure from a Usage BOM, the first value of the design is considered. In the above example, when users generate a design structure from a product BOM of type Ebm0PartProduct, the generated design structure is of the type Design.

After mapping Usage BOM and design, you must map the parts and designs within each BOM for alignment. Parts are used in a Usage BOM as part usages. By default, when a part of type Part is included in a Usage BOM, it is added as a part usage of type Ebm0PartUsageRevision. This is because Part and Ebm0PartUsageRevision business objects are mapped by default in the Pma0_ChildItemType_RevOccType preference as:

ChildItemType:Part,OccRevType:Ebm0PartUsageRevision

You can change this default mapping and can map additional parts and part usage types.
