Add structure elements to partitions

The structure elements included in a partition are called its members. You can add an element to more than one partition. To add structure elements to a partition:

Procedure

1. Open the product structure (item revision, part revision, or design revision) for which you want to organize the content into partitions.

   By default, the structure opens in the partition scheme that is set as the primary scheme by the administrator. However, if you have overridden the preference set by the administrator, the structure opens in the partition scheme that you have set.

To add existing elements:

1. Copy the elements that you want to add to a partition.
2. Select a partition scheme that contains the required partition.
3. Paste the copied element to the required partition.

To add existing elements in a split view:

1. Click Split Context.

   The Split View displays the product structure in two views side by side.

2. In one view, select a partition scheme that contains the required partition. On doing so, this view displays the partition hierarchy.

3. In the other view, set Partition Scheme to None. This view now displays the product structure.

4. Copy the elements from the product structure to the required partitions. You can also drag the elements to the required partitions.

To add a new element to a partition:

1. Select the partition and click Add > Child.
2. In the Add Child panel, enter the required details and click Add.

Note In a Usage BOM, the lower-level components can be the members of a partition. For the lower-level components to be the members of a partition, you must index the product using Smart Discovery Indexing. Also, the type of partition membership must be member-owned.

If the product is not indexed using Smart Discovery Indexing, only the first-level part usages can be organized under the target partition in a partition scheme.

Additional tasks

Task	Action
Remove an element from a partition	Right-click the element and select Remove. OR Select Edit Structure > Remove. If you remove an element that is the child of another element, the child element is removed from both the partition and the parent element.
Move an element to another partition	Drag the element from its current partition to the partition in which you want to add it. You can also copy the element and paste it to the required partition.
Move a part usage to another partition	For a Usage BOM, if your administrator has allowed for the automatic revision of released part usages during cross-partition movement, you do not need to manually revise the part usage. Instead, you can directly cut and paste or drag the part usage from one partition to another partition. Teamcenter automatically creates a new working revision of the part usage in the target partition and maintains the released revision in the source partition.

Example

When you make a product configuration change in the context of an Engineering Change Notice (ECN), only one active revision of a part is configured at a time. You can create multiple ECNs with specific release effectivity dates. Parts can be created in the context of specific ECNs, and parts can also have an intersection of effectivities of multiple ECNs. When an ECN is released, it does not change the revision of all the associated parts. Parts maintain their release revision until specifically changed.
