Developing requirements > NX design and validation requirements
Requirement types for NX design and validation
In Teamcenter, you can create design and validation requirements only in Requirements Manager and Systems Engineering. To bring design requirements into NX, use the NX ug_requirement_read built-in function in the Expressions dialog box. Import Teamcenter validation requirements to NX with the NX HD3D Requirements Validation tool.
Validation requirements in Teamcenter can be linked to the item revision or BOM line for an NX part. When the part is opened in NX, the linked requirements are automatically present and available for checking. The check results can be saved to Teamcenter.
From within NX, designers can create trace links to external requirements in Teamcenter. Designers can follow trace links to understand the reasons for design decisions, and potentially to alert engineers to the effects of changes to design requirements. Trace links between requirements and parts are shown in Teamcenter trace link reports.
Note: For information and instructions on requirements validation, see NX Help.
| Requirement type | Description |
|---|---|
| Design Requirement | Contains variables that you define as input parameters for CAD models of NX parts. |
| Validation Requirement | Contains: a condition formula that expresses the validation parameters; formula variables that refer to expression definitions by name; a severity level that specifies the degree to which a validation failure creates a problem. |
Tip: In Teamcenter, you can view validation results in Validation Manager. Also, you can incorporate validation requirements in workflow processes using Workflow Designer and view the processes in Workflow Viewer.
