Update a Managed solution variant If the source product structure is modified, you can review the changes and merge them manually with the managed solution variant. You can also make structural changes directly to the managed type of solution variant, such as adding, removing, or revising child items. Video Procedure (Optional) Set an active change notice that has the appropriate effectivity. Open an engineering BOM that has Assembly Indicator set as Configurable Assembly. Warning Do not change the state of Show Excluded by Effectivity and Show Suppressed. Their state must remain the same while creating and updating the solution variant. (Optional) If you want to make structural changes directly to the managed solution variant, in the Solution Variants tab, click Open to open a managed solution variant. Then, add, remove, or revise its child items. Open the source product structure and go to the Solution Variants tab. If the source structure is modified after the solution variant was created, the Source Assembly Modified? column displays Yes and indicates that the managed solution variant also needs to be updated. Select the managed type of the solution variant that needs to be updated and click Update . In the Update Solution Variant panel, perform the following tasks. If required, in the Variant Rule list, select a different, available variant rule. In the Properties section, review the properties. If required, in the Revision Rule list, select a different revision rule. In the Compare and Merge section, compare the changes in the source structure and the solution variant structure. The first column displays the items that are added, revised, or removed in the source structure. The second column displays the items that are added, revised, or removed in the selected solution variant structure. The blank cell in the column indicates that the respective structure does not contain the item. The following example shows that the Test_034517/A item is added to the source structure and the Test_034519-Bumper item is directly added to the managed solution variant. Select the required rows in the Compare and Merge section and click Merge . Click Undo to remove the last action. The following example shows that the Test_034517/A item is to be added to the managed solution variant. The following example shows that the Test_034519-Bumper item is to be removed from the managed solution variant. Click Update. The managed type of solution variant is updated. After the solution variant is updated, the absolute occurrence properties for a part within the solution variant are carried forward. The absolute occurrence properties, that is, Position Designator, ID in Context, and Usage Address, are also transferred if your administrator has configured them to be carried forward. To verify if a solution variant is updated correctly, open it from the Solution Variants column. If you have set an active change notice, release the active change.
