Update multiple structures simultaneously in a change notice

Update multiple impacted structures simultaneously for the problem items that are a part of a change notice by adding siblings, child items, and occurrence substitutes simultaneously as a part of the solution items.

When updating the structure, ensure that the selected item is not in the Released state.

When updating multiple structures simultaneously, you can perform the following tasks:

• Add siblings, child items, and occurrence substitutes.
• Revise the structures.
• Replace and remove the items from the structures.

All updates that are made as a part of the change notice are indicated as redline text.

Restrictions and limitations

You can update multiple structures simultaneously if your Teamcenter setup includes BOM Structure Managementlicense.

Procedure

1. In an active change notice, perform the impact analysis for the problem items and then select the impacted items. The impacted items are the structures or immediate parent assemblies for the problem items. If a problem item is a part of multiple structures, you can select all these structures as impacted items.
2. Click the Change Content tab to view all the problem items and their immediate parent assemblies, which are identified as impacted items. Tip To navigate to or locate specific items on the Change Content tab, use filters and sorting in columns. After you apply a filter to a column, all items that satisfy the filter criteria are displayed on the Change Content tab. For example, suppose that you are searching for an item with ID as 12. In such a case, in the ID column, select the Contains operator and type 12. The Change Content tab displays all items that have ID as 12. After a filter is applied, the Change Content tab considers the redlining and shows the modified content. If an item is removed on the Change Content tab as a part of the change, and its content satisfy the filter criteria, then that item is still shown on the Change Content tab. For example, suppose that the 8cm nut is removed and you entered the filter specifying the 8cm size. In such a case, the Change Content tab shows all 8cm nuts including the one that you removed. You cannot filter the visual indicator columns like . After applying column filters to locate the required content, if you click another tab in the change and then return to the Change Content tab, the column filtering is removed. You must again apply the column filters.
3. Perform the following actions as appropriate to select and show the required items on the Change Content tab. If you want to...Perform this actions... Select all items including the parent and child items. Click Select > All . Select all top parents assemblies. Click Select > All top parents. Select all occurrences of the selected item. Click Select > All matching elements. View all child items for the selected parent node apart from the ones that are a part of the change notice and also view the rest of the siblings and sub-assemblies. After viewing the non-impacted child items, you can update their properties and include them in the change.You might see all child items by default if your administrator has set it for you. Furthermore, if all child items are shown, the parent are always collapsed. You must manually expand them. Click Show > All Children . View only the child items that are a part of the change notice and do not want to view the siblings and sub-assemblies. Click Show > Children in Change .
4. To revise one or more items, select them and click Revise . If you select only one item for revision, the Revise panel appears. Review the information on the Revise panel and click Revise. If you select multiple items, a confirmation message appears. Click Revise on the confirmation message. The selected items are revised and are shown with the redlines.
5. If you want to edit the description, quantity, and any other properties of the selected one or more child items, click Edit . After you are finished editing the properties, click Save Edits .
6. If you want to add a child item to one or more items: Select the items under which you want to add the child item and click Add > Child. In the Add Child panel, search an existing child item or create a new one, and then click Add. The child is added to the selected items.
7. If you want to add a sibling item to one or more items: Select the items for which you want to add the sibling item and click Add > Sibling. You cannot add sibling to the parent item in the structure. In the Add Child panel, search for an existing child item or create a new one, and then click Add. The child item is added to the selected items.
8. If you want to add occurrence substitutes: Select one or more items and click Add > Substitute . In the Add Substitute panel, search for an item or create a new item and click Add. The occurrence of the selected item is added as a substitute. The Substitutes and Primary Component columns show the information of substitutes and primary items. The Substitutes section in the Overview tab for the primary item also show the list of the substitutes items. You can further set substitutes as primary components. After the substitutes are added, if you want to hide them from being shown in the structure, right-click a structure and select Hide Substitute Components .
9. If you want to remove some of the items from the structure, select the items and click Edit Structure > Remove . The selected items are removed from the structures and redlines appear for them.
10. If you want to replace the selected items by another item: Select one or more items and click Edit Structure > Replace . In the Replace panel, search for an existing item or create a new one, and then click Replace. All selected items are replaced with the chosen item.
11. If required, select the required revision rules and apply date and unit effectivity on the Change Content tab.
