Teamcenter Structure Management is described as providing "a common source of BOM information," including product configuration families and features, and is positioned as the tool to "evolve, control, navigate, analyze, share, and view" product structures across an organization's lifecycle. Siemens calls it "the foundation of your digital thread from concept through production."

- Part BOM — the physical product definition / Master Data Management layer: configurations, part sourcing, manufacturing locations, inventory.
- Design BOM — the "virtual product definition" where mechanical, electrical, and software engineers collaborate (3D components, PCB layouts, code structures).
- Digital Mock-Up (DMU) — virtual viewing/interrogation of configured BOMs across the lifecycle.
