Developing requirements > Unstructured (flat file) import
What are the steps you perform to import unstructured requirements?
| Step | Description |
|---|---|
| 1 | As the system administrator, you install the flat file functionality. Flat file functionality is installed as part of the Client for Office installation by selecting the Requirements Management Integration options. |
| 2 | As the requirements engineer, you customize the flat file configuration files for your environment. You modify the common settings, parser rules, and property settings section of the configuration files to configure such items as the server name, valid identifier tags and the parser rules. |
| 3 | As the requirements engineer, you define requirement objects and trace links in the unstructured document by assigning IDs to create identifier tags. Identifiers are regular expressions that are used to identify the object in the unstructured document. From the Teamcenter ribbon from Word or Excel, you assign IDs to create the requirement information. |
| 4 | As the requirements engineer, you optionally search IDs to find existing requirement information in Teamcenter. From the Teamcenter ribbon from Word or Excel, you can search for existing requirement information. |
| 5 | As the requirements engineer, you optionally preview the unstructured document to check for errors. From the Teamcenter ribbon from Word or Excel, you can preview the document before the import to check for accuracy or any errors. For example, you may want to preview the document to validate the identifiers are unique and don't exist in Teamcenter. |
| 6 | As the requirements engineer, you import the unstructured document to Teamcenter. From the Teamcenter ribbon from Word or Excel, you import the unstructured document as a new file to create the dataset and the requirement information in Teamcenter. |
| 7 | As the requirements engineer, you can update the unstructured document to modify, delete, or add requirement information. |
| 8 | As the requirements engineer, you import updates to Teamcenter. From the Teamcenter ribbon from Word or Excel, you reimport the unstructured document to update or revise the dataset and the requirement information in Teamcenter. |
