Specify mirror designs

Specify the designs that are mirror of each other to establish design dependency and to enable synchronized change management. In Teamcenter, you can define two designs as mirror, or left-handed and right-handed copies of each other if not already set in the CAD software, such as NX.

In Teamcenter, mirror designs are geometrically identical designs, oriented differently. For example, the left and right versions of headlights, doors, or suspension components. Specifying these mirror relationships in Teamcenter creates design dependency, supports searching for such related designs, and facilitates synchronized change management.If any form-fit changes are made to one of the designs making it different than the counter design, you can remove the link and the design acts as a separate and standalone design. PrerequisitesThe design that you want to add as a mirror design must already exist in Teamcenter. ProcedureSpecify a master design. Open the first design and click Edit .

In the Mirror Type list, select Master and then click Save . The design is saved as a master design in Teamcenter. Specify the mirror design. Open the other design that you want to specify as a mirror design and click Edit .

In the Mirror Type list, select Mirror, and click Save. Link the master and mirror designs.Note You can link the master and mirror designs only from the mirror design.

In Mirror Link section of the mirror design, click Add . A design can be a master design for only one mirror design. Similarly, a design can be set as a mirror design only for one master design.

Search for the master design and click Add.

Click Save . The designs are stored as mirror designs. If an engineering BOM is created for the design structure that already contained the mirror designs, the equivalent aligned parts of the engineering BOM also contain the mirror information. If an engineering BOM already existed for the design structure, you must then update the alignments for the mirror information to be added to the aligned parts.If a design is revised due to a business requirement and is no longer a mirror design, you can remove the link. To do so, open the mirror design, and in the Mirror Link, click Delete .
