TeamcenterKnowledge

requirements-management

An offline document is stored outside of Teamcenter, for example, on your desktop or on a shared drive. It is temporarily disconnected from Teamcenter.

When you reconnect the document, you can commit its pending changes to overwrite the data in the corresponding structure. Or, you can nullify the pending changes and overwrite the document with the current Teamcenter data. If necessary, you can resolve conflicts in modifications between the document and the structure.

Note:

  • In the Export to Word dialog box, the Check out objects before export option explicitly checks out the selected objects before the output document is generated. This option is selected and unavailable by default. Unless you changed the REQ_checkout_objects_before_export preference, the objects in the offline document are checked out automatically.
  • The document is not available for editing until synchronization is complete.
  • If live Word displays the Teamcenter Login dialog box during this procedure, enter your Teamcenter user name and password, and then click Login.

Procedure

  1. From your local file system, open the offline live Word document.

If no other live Word document is connected to Teamcenter, a message asks if you want to connect. Click Yes to open the connection and the Synchronize dialog box. The Synchronize dialog box opens automatically if another live Word document is connected.

Note: All open live Word documents share the same connection.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • To commit the pending changes in the document, select Commit my changes to Teamcenter, and then synchronize. This option applies the changes to the corresponding objects in the structure. Also, it updates the document with changes to other objects since the document was last synchronized.
    • To void the pending changes in the document, select Ignore my changes, and take latest from Teamcenter. This option overwrites the document content with the current data in the corresponding structure.
  3. Click Synchronize. Live Word displays the Save dialog box.

  4. Select the Save and Check-In check box, and then click OK.

Note: If you click OK with the check box cleared, the document closes and the requirements remain checked out.

Live Word displays a progress indicator if no modification conflicts exist between the document and the structure.

The Modified objects warning dialog box opens if objects changed in the document were changed also in Teamcenter after the original export. You can click Details to view the objects in the Conflicting objects found dialog box.

Select one of the following options in the Modified objects warning dialog box:

  • Stop saving to terminate the synchronization without applying pending changes.
  • Ignore modified objects and continue saving to continue the synchronization and overwrite all Teamcenter changes.

Click OK to begin the synchronization. The progress indicator displays informational messages at each stage of the process. The document closes when the synchronization is complete.
