Generating Aligned BOM from Design Structure

About generating an aligned Usage BOM from a design structure

You can generate a Usage BOM automatically from a design structure available in Teamcenter. The Usage BOM is generated with a naming convention set by the administrator. In the generated Usage BOM:

  • The topmost node of the design structure is linked with the Usage BOM.
  • A (parent) part is created for a (parent) design, and the design is aligned with the part.
  • Part occurrences are created below the (parent) part, and are automatically aligned with the corresponding design occurrences.
  • For a design that occurs multiple times in the design structure, a single part occurrence is created with the quantity same as the number of times the design occurs in the design structure.
  • For a design having multiple parts (in design-part alignment), only a single part occurrence is created in automation based upon date of its design-part alignment. Part which is aligned first in design-part alignment is given preference for occurrence alignment. Remaining part occurrences needs to be created and aligned manually.
  • For design structure having manufacturing features like welds, fasteners, fastener group, arc weld and datum point, an aligned engineering BOM (Usage BOM or Assembly BOM) is created along with same manufacturing features and synchronized connection information.
  • For each part occurrence, a part is created, and is aligned with the corresponding design.
  • Design occurrences that are marked as dual-intent in the design structure are reused as is. Dual-intent implies that the design is qualified as both design and part.

You can generate an aligned Usage BOM by clicking Create Engineering Product BOM or by sending the design structure through a workflow. Your administrator can also generate a Usage BOM for you.

Example

Consider that the design structure of Crosskart does not have a corresponding Usage BOM. When you generate a Usage BOM for Crosskart:

  • The Crosskart design is linked with the Crosskart Usage BOM.
  • Parts P_Engine Assembly and P_wheel are created and aligned with the designs, Engine Assembly and Wheel respectively. Parts are also created for the part occurrences of the engine assembly and wheel. These parts are in turn aligned with their respective designs.
  • Each design occurrence of Crosskart is aligned with the part occurrences of the Usage BOM, P_Crosskart
  • Consider that the design Wheel occurs 4 times in the design structure of Crosskart. In the generated Usage BOM, a single part occurrence with quantity as 4 is created and aligned with the 4 design occurrences of Wheel.
