Exporting product data > Exporting data to Microsoft Office Word
Changing property values interactively with live Word
In the Export to Word dialog box, the Live integration with Word output mode generates a Word document with Teamcenter live Word capability. Select this mode when you want to change Teamcenter property values directly from Word.
- The output document contains live data for the objects and properties defined in the specification template and object template that you select.
- The templates also determine the document layout and formatting styles.
Caution: In the object template, the {%object_name} property keyword is required. Otherwise, structure data cannot be edited in live Word. Properties with dynamic or cascading lists of values (LOVs) cannot be modified with live Word.
Note: The Live integration with Word output mode ignores landscape orientation in specification templates. The page layout is portrait orientation in all live Word documents.
- The data is synchronized with Teamcenter; you can edit property values interactively.
- Changes are applied in the structure when you save and close the document.
Live Options
Export for structure editing and work offline Generates a live Word document that you can store outside of Teamcenter, for example, on a local or shared drive. While offline, the document retains its live capability although changes are not applied to the structure in real time. Changes are accumulated pending later connection to the Teamcenter server. After establishing connection, you can commit the changes to Teamcenter, or cancel the changes and refresh the document with the current structure data.
Check out objects before export Explicitly checks out the selected objects from Teamcenter before the live Word document is generated. You reserve access to the objects until you check them in, either when you commit changes to the structure or cancel the changes.
Note: The Check out objects before export option is unavailable by default. You can enable the option by setting a preference in the Options dialog box.
Note: There is no integration between live Office and Client for Office add-ins. When you use Systems Engineering within the rich client, the live Office add-in disables the Microsoft Office save option and displays its own save button. When saving a requirement dataset in the embedded Microsoft Word window, use the live Office save button, not the save button in the Client for Office add-ins tab. If you attempt to save a requirement dataset using the Client for Office menu, Client for Office does not recognize the Teamcenter object context and does not know where the dataset originates in Teamcenter.
