Systems Engineering buttons

The following table describes the buttons that are specific to Systems Engineering.

Buttons on the main toolbar at the top of the Systems Engineering window

Button Purpose
Cut Moves the selected object or objects to the Clipboard.
Copy Places a duplicate of the selected object or objects in the Clipboard. Copy can also be used to initiate a trace link from the selected defining object or objects.
Paste Inserts the Clipboard contents below the selected item.
Paste as New Pastes a duplicate of the object from the Teamcenter clipboard as a new object and a child of one selected object.
Delete Deletes the selected objects.
Refresh Refreshes the display in the selected window.
Start Trace Link Initiates a trace link from the selected defining object. If multiple defining objects are selected, a separate trace link is initiated from each object.
End Trace Link Completes a trace link to the selected complying object. If multiple complying objects are selected, a separate trace link is created to each object. This button assigns the default subtype, Trace Link, to the new trace link.
End Trace Link... Completes a trace link to the selected complying object of a given subtype. If multiple complying objects are selected, a separate trace link is created to each object. This button allows you to assign a custom subtype to the new trace link.
Remove Removes the selected items from the requirement specification structure, without placing the items on the Clipboard. If the requirement specification is selected, the entire structure is removed. The items are not removed from the database.
Requirement Specification Creates an empty requirement specification, which is displayed on a new tab in the structure pane. You build the requirement specification structure by creating individual requirements and paragraphs.
Requirement Creates a requirement within a requirement specification structure. The requirement is created at the primary level, directly below the requirement specification. Or, the requirement is created as a child of any other item in the structure.
Paragraph Creates a paragraph within a requirement specification structure. The paragraph is created at the primary level, directly below the requirement specification. Or, the paragraph is created as a child of any other item in the structure.
Custom Note Creates a custom note within a requirement specification structure. The custom note is created at the primary level, directly below the requirement specification. Or, the custom note is created as a child of any other item in the structure.
Function Opens the New Function dialog box for you to create a new function object.
Logical Block Opens the New Logical Block dialog box for you to create a new logical block object.
Custom Block Opens the New Business Object dialog box for you to create other types of systems engineering blocks. Other systems engineering blocks are configured by your systems administrator.
Interface Creates an interface port for connecting inputs/outputs to/from blocks. The interface object allows for a connection to another block.
Connection Creates a connection between a selected interface port. The connection uses interface objects defined on the blocks to make the physical connection.
Signal... Opens the New Signal dialog box in which you can create a signal to add to the Signals library in Classification. After a signal is available in the Signals library, you can add the signal to a functional or logical structure and associate it with interfaces and connections in the structure.
Associated Signals View Displays information about the signals associated with the selected object.
Add Signals From Library Add a signal from the Signals library to the selected level in the functional or logical structure.
Connect Creates a connection on a network port in a functional or logical structure.
Disconnect Removes a connection on a network port in a functional or logical structure.
Toggle In-Context Mode Enables or disables editing in context mode, allowing creation and edit of absolute occurrences for the selected structure.
Structure Search Opens the Structure Search view.
Cross Probing Mode Initiates a trace of a selected object's downstream and upstream relationships across structures in different Teamcenter applications.
Derived Requirement Creates a new requirement as a child of the selected requirement with a copy of the information of parent requirement.
Create Child Creates a child of the selected object of the same object type.
Move Up Moves the selected structure element up one position in the structure.
Move Down Moves the selected structure element down one position in the structure.
Promote One Level Moves the selected structure element up one level in the structure. The selected structure element becomes a sibling of its parent structure element.
Demote One Level Moves the selected structure element down one level in the structure. The selected structure element becomes a child of the immediately preceding sibling at the previous level.
Custom Notes Manager Opens the Custom Notes view for the selected object.
MS Word View Opens the content of the selected requirement or paragraph for viewing or editing in Microsoft Word.
Export objects to Word Exports the content of selected requirements and paragraphs to Microsoft Office Word.
Export objects to Excel Exports the content of selected requirements and paragraphs to Microsoft Office Excel.
Variant Condition Displays variant equations that describe variant conditions on a structure.
Edit Budget Opens the Edit Budget dialog box for the selected object.
Trace Links View Opens the Trace Links view.
Traceability Matrix Opens the Traceability Matrix view.
Show Diagram Explorer Opens the Diagram Explorer view.
Requirement Expression View Opens the Requirement Expression view.
Budget View Opens the Budgets view.
