Update the solution variants of a product through a workflow When a product structure changes, you can use a workflow to update the Reuse type of solution variants for both the design and the engineering BOM. You can manage new parts and revisions, and the specific properties that must be updated in the solution variants. When a structure is updated, you must also update the corresponding solution variants. Consider the following scenarios before starting the workflow. Scenarios How to update solution variants Source design BOM is updated. Perform an automated or guided update to update the corresponding engineering BOM. If the solution variant is not updated during the automated update, check the BOM generation report located in the Newstuff > BOM Generation folder for any errors. Manually fix any error. Start the workflow to update the solution variant for the engineering BOM. Source engineering BOM is updated. Send the engineering BOM through a workflow to update the corresponding solution variant. Procedure Set an active change that has the appropriate effectivity. Open the updated source structure. Warning Do not change the state of the Show Excluded by Effectivity and Show Suppressed toggles. The state of these toggles must remain unchanged while creating and updating the solution variant. Click More Commands > Manage > Submit to Workflow . In the Submit to Workflow panel, select one of the following templates in the Template list: Update Solution Variants Select this template to update all the solution variants of the structure that are impacted due to the structure change. Update Solution Variants 2 Select this template, and then specify one or more solution variants in the target to update them. Alternatively, specify a solution variant in the target and a different revision of the variant rule in the reference. The solution variant is updated with the revised variant rule. In this case, specify only one solution variant in the target. If you also specify an engineering change with an effectivity in the target, the solution variants with the effectivity mentioned in the engineering change are updated. The update is applied to all the solution variants that are impacted due to the structure change. If a solution variant is already released, it is revised and then updated. If the effectivity of the active change notice completely overlaps with the effectivity of the change notice under which the source structure was updated, the impacted solution variant usage is revised and its ECN In is the same as the active change notice. For a newly added part in the structure, Teamcenter checks if the Assembly Indicator of the part is marked as Configurable Assembly or Generic Part. Teamcenter then checks if a solution variant is already created for the part and reuses this solution variant in the updated solution variant structure. If a solution variant is not available, Teamcenter creates a new one for the part and reuses this new solution variant in the updated structure. What to do next To verify if the solution variants are updated correctly, go to the Solution Variants tab and open the required solution variants to see the updates.
