Update solution variants for variability changes

Solution Variant Category

Reuse

Managed

If the parent structure contains sub-assemblies that are associated with their respective configurator contexts, the variant rules that are associated with these configurator contexts must also be updated based on the modified variant rule of the parent structure.

Example

Consider the Front Door structure, which includes multiple solution variants for mirror assemblies. Based on business requirements, you modify the variant rule for the VX variant and the Front Door structure (150% BOM) by adding a power-folding mirror with a turn signal feature. Following this modification, you assess the impacted solution variants and update them accordingly. The VX mirror assembly variant is updated to include the power-folding mirror with the turn signal feature.

Procedure

  1. (Optional) Set an active change notice that has the appropriate effectivity.
  2. Ensure that the variant rule for the configurator context that is associated with an assembly in the structure is already updated. When updating the variant rule, ensure that it is in the expanded state and validated and saved.
  3. Ensure that the variant rules for the configurator contexts that are associated with the parent structure (150% BOM) and its subassemblies are also already updated.
  4. Open the structure that has the impacted solution variants. Warning Do not change the state of Show Excluded by Effectivity and Show Suppressed. Their state must be the same while creating and updating the solution variant. Because the variant rule is modified after the solution variants are created, the Variant Rule Modified column in the Solution Variants tab shows Yes for the solution variants. This indicates that the solution variants need to be updated to include the latest changes made to the variant rules.
  5. Select the solution variant and click Update . The selected solution variant and the parent structure are updated.
